When you don't get what you want

"When Allah loves a servant, He protects him from (the excesses of) the world, just as one of you continues to protect his sick person from water."

Explanation

English 

From the wisdom of Allah, Glorified and Exalted, is that He tests His believing, righteous servant by preventing him from certain things which people consider as good and virtuous in this worldly life. But this trial is for purification, and for a greater good that Allah has intended for the servant. The one being tested may not see or know the reason behind the prevention, nor the reward for patiently enduring it.

And in this hadith The Messenger of Allah ﷺ says: "When Allah loves a servant, He protects him from the world." Meaning: He protects him from everything in the world that could harm his religion — "just as one of you keeps water away from his sick person." That is, like your action of preventing a sick person from drinking water in certain illnesses.

And this is a form of Prophetic upbringing and teaching for the Muslims, and a means of strengthening them in the hardships of this worldly life. And that all things occur by the Decree of Allah. Thus, the Muslim does not despair, but reflects upon Allah's Wisdom, remains patient with His decree, and is certain that Allah has chosen what is best for him.

And in the hadith is a clarification that Allah's withholding of blessings from some of His pious servants is not out of His displeasure with them, but rather out of His Love for them. And in it is the use of a real-life example to make the meaning clearer.

اللہ تعالیٰ کی حکمت میں سے یہ ہے کہ وہ اپنے نیک اور مؤمن بندے کو بعض ایسی چیزوں سے محروم کر کے آزماتا ہے جنہیں لوگ دنیا میں بھلائی اور فضیلت سمجھتے ہیں۔ لیکن یہ آزمائش تزکیہ اور اس بھلائی کے لیے ہوتی ہے جو اللہ نے بندے کے لیے چاہی ہے۔ مبتلا شخص نہ اس محرومی کی علت کو جانتا ہے اور نہ ہی اس پر صبر کرنے کے اجر کو۔

اور اس حدیث میں رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: "جب اللہ اپنے بندے سے محبت کرتا ہے تو اسے دنیا (کے فتنوں) سے بچا لیتا ہے۔" یعنی اسے دنیا کی ہر اس چیز سے محفوظ رکھتا ہے جو اس کے دین کو نقصان پہنچا سکتی ہے — "جیسے تم میں سے کوئی اپنے مریض کو پانی سے بچاتا ہے۔" یعنی جیسے تم بعض بیماریوں میں مریض کو پانی پینے سے روکتے ہو۔

اور یہ نبی کریم ﷺ کی طرف سے مسلمانوں کی تربیت اور تعلیم کی ایک صورت ہے تاکہ وہ دنیا کی سختیوں پر ثابت قدم رہیں۔ اور یہ کہ سب کچھ اللہ کے تقدیر سے ہوتا ہے، لہٰذا مسلمان نہ گھبرائے بلکہ اللہ کی حکمت پر غور کرے، اس کے فیصلے پر صبر کرے اور یقین رکھے کہ اللہ نے اس کے لیے بھلائی ہی منتخب کی ہے۔

اور حدیث میں یہ وضاحت ہے کہ اللہ تعالیٰ کا اپنے بعض پرہیزگار بندوں سے نعمت روک لینا اس کی ناراضگی کی وجہ سے نہیں ہوتا بلکہ ان سے محبت کی وجہ سے ہوتا ہے۔ اور اس میں حقیقت سے مثال دے کر معنی کو قریب اور واضح کیا گیا ہے۔
