One Tasliim or two for funeral prayer

Issue:
He said: "(The one praying) says one salam to his right."

Explanation:
The Sunnah in the funeral prayer is to say a single salam.

Ahmad (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

"The salutation (taslim) in the funeral prayer is one taslimah, according to six of the Companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him), and there is no disagreement on this except what is reported from Ibrahim (al-Nakhai)."

It has been reported that one taslimah was said (at the end of the funeral prayer) by:
Ali, Ibn Umar, Ibn Abbas, Jabir, Abu Hurayrah, Anas ibn Malik, Ibn Abi Awfa, and Wathilah ibn al-Asqa.

And the same was the view of:
Said ibn Jubayr, al-Hasan al-Basri, Ibn Sirin, Abu Umamah ibn Sahl, al-Qasim ibn Muhammad, al-Harith, Ibrahim al-Nakhai, al-Thawri, Ibn Uyaynah, Ibn al-Mubarak, Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi, and Ishaq (ibn Rahawayh).

Ibn al-Mubarak said:

"Whoever gives two taslimahs in the funeral prayer is an ignorant person — utterly ignorant."

The Qadi (i.e., Qadi Abu Ya'la) preferred the view that two taslimahs are recommended, though one taslimah suffices.

Al-Shafi'i and the Ashab al-Ra'y (Hanafis) also said: two taslimahs, by analogy with the rest of the prayers.

Our evidence:
What was narrated by Ata ibn al-Sa'ib — that the Prophet (peace be upon him) gave a single taslimah in the funeral prayer.

مسئلہ:
انہوں نے کہا: "(نماز جنازہ پڑھنے والا) اپنے دائیں طرف ایک سلام کہے۔"

تشریح:
نماز جنازہ میں سنت یہ ہے کہ ایک ہی سلام کہا جائے۔

امام احمد (اللہ ان پر رحم فرمائے) نے کہا:
"نماز جنازہ میں سلام ایک ہی سلام ہے، نبی صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے چھ صحابہ سے یہی منقول ہے، اور اس میں کوئی اختلاف نہیں سوائے اس کے جو ابراہیم النخعی سے روایت کیا گیا ہے۔"

یہ بات منقول ہے کہ ایک سلام کہا گیا علی، ابن عمر، ابن عباس، جابر، ابو ہریرہ، انس بن مالک، ابن ابی عوفی، اور واثلہ بن الاسقع سے۔

اور یہی قول ہے:
سعید بن جبیر، حسن بصری، ابن سیرین، ابو امامہ بن سهل، قاسم بن محمد، حارث، ابراہیم النخعی، ثوری، ابن عیینہ، ابن المبارک، عبدالرحمن بن مہدی، اور اسحاق بن راہویہ کا۔

ابن المبارک نے کہا:
"جو شخص نماز جنازہ میں دو سلام کہے وہ جاہل ہے، بالکل جاہل۔"

قاضی (یعنی قاضی ابو یعلی) نے یہ رائے اختیار کی کہ دو سلام مستحب ہیں لیکن ایک سلام کافی ہے۔

شافعی اور اصحاب الرائے (احناف) نے بھی کہا کہ دو سلام کہنا بہتر ہے کیونکہ دوسری نمازوں پر قیاس کیا گیا ہے۔

ہمارا موقف:
عطاء بن سائب کی روایت ہے کہ نبی صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے نماز جنازہ میں ایک ہی سلام کہا۔
