When life gets tough
"...Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without account."
[Qur'aan 30:10]
Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said, "None of you should long for death, for if he is a good man, he may increase his good deeds, and if he is an evil-doer, he may stop the evil deeds and repent."
[Sahih Al-Bukhaari Hadith No. 7235]
There are times when life can get really tough. All hope seems to be lost. Difficulties encompass you from above and below. Everywhere you look you see disappointment.
Remind yourself that we are here for the sake of Allaah. We live for Him. We die for Him. And we are to be patient for Him.
Those who are patient will be rewarded a reward without account.
And when things get unbearable, do not wish for death. Instead, recite the following duaa':
اللَّهُمَّ أَحْيِنِي مَا كَانَتِ الْحَيَاةُ خَيْرًا لِي، وَتَوَفَّنِي إِذَا كَانَتِ الْوَفَاةُ خَيْرًا لِي
The duaa' is present in the following Hadith:
Narrated Anas bin Malik: The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said, "None of you should wish for death because of a calamity befalling him; but if he has to wish for death, he should say: "O Allah! Keep me alive as long as life is better for me, and let me die if death is better for me.' "
[Sahih al-Bukhari Hadith No. 5671]
And remind yourself of the following Verses for strength:
Do the people think that they will be left to say, "We believe" and they will not be tried?
But We have certainly tried those before them, and Allah will surely make evident those who are truthful, and He will surely make evident the liars.
[Qur'aan 29:2-3]
And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient,
Who, when disaster strikes them, say, "Indeed we belong to Allah , and indeed to Him we will return."
Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the [rightly] guided.
[Qur'aan 2:156-158]
