There are enemies from among your spouses and children
O you who have believed, indeed, among your wives and your children are enemies to you, so beware of them. But if you pardon and overlook and forgive - then indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
[Qur'aan 64:14]
Allaah has told His believing slaves to remain on guard. He has informed them that from among their children and wives are those who are enemies to them. Similarly, in other Verses of the Qur'aan He has informed us that our wealth and children are a trial [fitnah].
Your wealth and your children are but a trial, and Allah has with Him a great reward.
[Qur'aan 64:15]
Their being an enemy means that they cause a person to forget to indulge in good deeds, cut ties of kinship, or fall into disobedience as a result of the love they have for their wives and children. That is why Allaah said:
O you who have believed, let not your wealth and your children divert you from remembrance of Allah . And whoever does that - then those are the losers.
[Qur'aan 63:9]
Children are a enemies to their father and wives to their husbands when they become a cause for keeping him from obeying Allaah and cause him to fall into sin. And this is a matter which all of us have witnessed. Many men fall into disobedience in an attempt to please their wives and children. Thus, a Muslim must always be on his guard and not let his children or his wife become a cause for disobeying Allaah.
