Secret talks

There is no good in most of their secret talks save (in) him who orders Sadaqah (charity in Allah's Cause), or Ma'ruf (Islamic Monotheism and all the good and righteous deeds which Allah has ordained), or conciliation between mankind, and he who does this, seeking the good Pleasure of Allah, We shall give him a great reward.

[Qur'aan 4:114]

When people meet and gather together what is it that their conversations usually center around? It is backbiting, spreading gossip, picking out others mistakes, and talking about ways to beautify this temporary life of theirs. There is no good in what people talk about. The very reason that they keep it a secret from others indicates that they know deep inside that they are indulging in that which is wrong as it is human nature to hide that which is wrong.

The only good is in those private talks in which matters such as reconciling between mankind is discussed or giving charity or other deeds, which Allaah has ordered that one do, are discussed. We as Muslims are to indulge in actions which are righteous. We are to help one another in piety. We are not to assist one another in sin and transgression. That is why Allaah says:

And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression.

[Qur'aan 5:(portion of Verse) 2]

And when doing any good deed we must remember that our intention is to only be to please Allaah. Allaah accepts only that which is done for Him. He accepts only that which is good. We are not to do good deeds with the intention of seeking fame, money, power, or for any other reason. Our sole purpose should be to please Allaah.
