Respect for a Muslim after his death
Narrated 'Ataa: We presented ourselves along with Ibn `Abbas at the funeral procession of Maimuuna at a place called Sarif. Ibn `Abbaas said, "This is the wife of the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) so when you lift her bier, do not jerk it or shake it much, but walk smoothly because the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) had nine wives and he used to observe the night turns with eight of them, and for one of them there was no night turn."
[Sahih al-Bukhaari Hadith No. 5067]
وفى هذا الحديث من الفقه أن حرمة المسلم ميتا كحرمته حيا؛ لأن ابن عباس راعى من توقير زوج النبى (صلى الله عليه وسلم) بعد موتها ما كان يراعيه فى حياتها
This hadiith is evidence that the sanctity of a Muslim who is dead is like his sanctity when he his alive because Ibn Abbaas observed the same respect for the wife of the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) after her death which he observed during her lifetime.
