Marrying off a virgin

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said, "A matron should not be given in marriage except after consulting her; and a virgin should not be given in marriage except after her permission." The people asked, "O Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam)! How can we know her permission?" He said, "Her silence (indicates her permission).

[Sahih al-Bukhaari Hadith No. 5136]

Based on this hadiith the 'aSHaab al-Ra'y, al-'awzaa'ii, Abu 'ubaid, Abu Thawr, and Sufyaan said that it is not permissible to marry off a virgin unless she agrees to the marriage.
