Exalt Him after prostration

So be patient, [O Muhammad], over what they say and exalt [ Allah ] with praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before its setting,

And [in part] of the night exalt Him and after prostration.

[Qur'aan 50:39-40]

Ibn al-'arabi says that there are two opinions regarding the portion of the second Verse which reads: "and after prostration." He says that the stronger of the two opinions is that it refers to the remembrance [dhikr] of Allaah after the prescribed prayers. Then he mentions the following hadiith:

Narrated Warrad: (the freed slave of Al-Mughira bin Shu`ba) Al-Mughira wrote to Muawiya bin Abu Sufyan that Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) used to say at the end of every prayer after the tasliim, "Laa ilaaha illa-l-laahu wahdahu laa shariika lahu; lahu-l-mulk wa lahu-l-hamd, wahuwa 'ala kulli shai'n qadir. Allahumma laa maani'a Limaa 'ataita, wa laa mu'tiya limaa mana'ta, wa laa yanfa'u dhal-jaddi minkal-jadd.

[Sahih al-Bukhaari Hadith No. 6330]
