Do not sever the ties of kinship. Do not be from among the losers.

Who break the covenant of Allah after contracting it and sever that which Allah has ordered to be joined and cause corruption on earth. It is those who are the losers.

Qur'ān 2:27


"...sever that which Allah has ordered to be joined.."

Ibn Kathīr said that Qatādah said this portion of the Verse refers to the ties of kinship. Imām al-Tabari Tabari also favored this Tafsīr of Qatādah and said it refers to the ties of kinship.


It was narrated from Abu Bakrah that the Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said:

“There is no sin more deserving that Allah hasten the punishment in this world, in addition to what is stored up for him in the Hereafter – than injustice and severing the ties of kinship.”
